Connect to Wi-Fi in Omarchy

Join a wireless network, confirm internet access, and know when to switch to troubleshooting.

Based on public documentation; not hardware-tested. Match the instructions to your version and hardware.

The current Omarchy networking guide uses NetworkManager. Open the network panel from the top bar or press Super + Ctrl + W.

  1. Check that Wi-Fi is enabled and airplane mode is off.
  2. Select your network name from the scan results.
  3. Enter the network’s password when prompted.
  4. Wait for the connection status, then open a familiar website.

Use the password for the network, not your Omarchy login. A campus or workplace network can require an identity, certificate, or other settings supplied by its administrator.

Open a terminal with Super + Enter, then run:

Terminal window
nmtui

Use its connection interface to select and activate your wireless network, supplying authentication when requested. This is an alternative interface to the same network manager, not a second networking service.

A connection to the access point does not guarantee internet access. Compare a second website and another device on the same network. Hotel or guest Wi-Fi may require a sign-in page. If an expected portal appears, complete the network’s normal sign-in flow.

For a useful comparison, try a phone hotspot if you have one. Note whether the same laptop works there. Do not change DNS and install another network manager simultaneously: you would lose track of which change mattered.

Once connected, save your work and check that the expected network is available after a restart. If the adapter disappears only after sleep, see sleep troubleshooting.

For no adapter, repeated password rejection, or a connected network without internet, continue with Wi-Fi troubleshooting. Record the symptom and comparison results.

Setup → Network → QR Code can display connection details for another device to scan. Treat that QR code like the Wi-Fi password: keep it out of public screenshots and bug reports.
