Updating Omarchy
A repeatable routine for keeping your system current.
Based on public documentation; not hardware-tested. Match the instructions to your version and hardware.
Before the update
Section titled “Before the update”Save work, connect a laptop to power, and allow time for the process to finish. Keep a separate copy of important files and any configuration you recently changed.
Read release notes when moving between major versions. Record your current version and update channel so a later problem has a useful starting point.
Use the Omarchy update flow
Section titled “Use the Omarchy update flow”The documented menu path is Update → Omarchy. The command-line equivalent is:
omarchy updateThis coordinates packages with Omarchy’s migrations and snapshot workflow. A standalone package-manager upgrade is not an equivalent maintenance routine.
Choose a channel deliberately
Section titled “Choose a channel deliberately”The official guide describes stable, RC, edge, and dev. For a first daily-use installation, stay on stable while learning recovery. Changing channels is a separate decision from applying a normal update.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”After the update completes, follow any restart instructions. Check your browser, network, input method, audio, and one custom binding. If a check fails, record the symptom before making more changes.
If an update fails, save the first meaningful error, not just the final failure line. Continue with update recovery.
