PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE / FIELD GUIDE

Omarchy Themes: the theme gallery

Compare built-in and community Omarchy themes with real previews, choose readable colors, and learn how to switch and recover.

Omarchy themes coordinate colors and backgrounds across the desktop and supported applications. Use this gallery to make a shortlist, then test your real work before deciding. A striking wallpaper alone cannot tell you whether code, selected text and a long document remain comfortable to read.

Jump to the preview gallery · Desktop customization · Why an app does not follow the theme

Question What to compare Next action
Light or dark? Your room, usual document background and time of day Use the appearance filter, then test the same text
Built-in or community? Installed availability versus the author’s compatibility notes Start with built-ins, or inspect the repository before installation
Is the palette readable? Selection, comments, warnings and active/inactive boundaries Inspect your own editor and terminal, not only a desktop image
Does it coordinate my apps? Desktop, terminal and supported application settings Follow application theming for mismatches
Is something still uncomfortable? Font size, display scale, borders and transparency Check fonts and window appearance

Compare two or three candidates with the same applications open. Note the theme name, what improves and what remains wrong. Keep the current theme available so that returning takes a deliberate switch rather than a complete reconfiguration.

The saved catalogue covers built-ins from the official repository and entries in the official community directory at its recorded date. It is not a live inventory of every third-party theme. The gallery shows supplied images, with author/source links and multiple views when available. Missing screenshots are not replaced with invented previews.

Light/dark labels are based on configuration background luminance; unavailable data remains unclassified. Screenshots may use different releases, fonts or application settings. Read compatibility notes before copying the appearance into your installation.

Search by a name such as Catppuccin, Gruvbox, Everforest or Kanagawa, or by an author. Use source and appearance filters to narrow the list. The four families now have source-reviewed guides linked below and from their built-in cards; their examples are not hardware validation of every release.

Your next question Read What it adds to the previews
How do bundled themes and my own files interact? Built-in themes Source precedence, generated output and recovery
How do I evaluate and remove a repository theme? Community themes Name collisions, compatibility filtering and removal boundaries
Which appearance should I compare? Light / dark Shortlists and realistic selection/focus tests
How do the named families differ? Catppuccin · Gruvbox · Everforest · Kanagawa Actual palettes, editor variants and distinct practical exercises
Can I keep the colors but change the image? Wallpapers Personal folders, aspect-ratio crop, video and recovery

Images come from the official catalogue or author README. Only supplied views are shown; separate terminal, editor, and lock-screen images are not available for every theme.

  1. Note your current theme’s name.
  2. Open the menu with Super + Space, then choose Style → Theme.
  3. Select a theme and inspect your usual applications.

The direct selector shortcut is Super + Ctrl + Shift + Space. Cycle the selected theme’s backgrounds with Super + Ctrl + Space.

The theme coordinates supported applications and the desktop shell. Obsidian needs its Omarchy theme selected inside Appearance → Themes. An unrelated application may keep its own appearance settings.

Browse the community catalogue, open a theme’s repository, and read its compatibility and installation notes. The catalogue points to Install → Style → Themes. Follow the prompts in your installed version and the author’s instructions.

Before installing, answer three questions: does the project name a supported Omarchy version, does it change anything beyond appearance, and how do you remove it? A catalogue listing is not a guarantee that every release works on your system.

Select the previous built-in theme through Style → Theme. If you also edited application settings, restore those separately: a theme switch is not a backup of every configuration file.

If a single app remains different, reopen it and inspect its theme setting before changing system files. For manual edits, use the configuration backup workflow.

Record the theme name, repository, Omarchy version, and anything that did not follow the switch. Share screenshots only after checking visible filenames and terminal output. Once you have a comfortable theme, continue with designing personal shortcuts.

For a coordinated appearance, continue with fonts and text size, bar customization, or why apps do not all follow a theme. For daily actions, use the shortcut tutorial.
